Oh yum! Nice to see some serious progress in the realm of highly-portable fuel cell tech. Sony has developed a new "super fuel cell film" using fullerenes (aka: "buckyballs"). If this doesn't make sense to you (and you don't care to delve into the articles,) just consider this statement and you'll be good for now: "the technology looks like a significant step in the right direction toward the development of DMFCs powerful enough to supplement or replace lithium batteries for handheld gadgets." DMFC = direct methanol fuel cell.. or a fuel cell using stored methanol, basically, as fuel.

Bring on the fuel cell generation.. I'm sick of oil. (Not that this is a point relevant to this news, but I just have to say it.)

I'm hooked on PVR's ("Personal Video Recorder" or something). Ya know, like Tivo and such, but basically the term refers more to computers converted for use as a recording device and media-watching thing.

I set up a system a while back, mainly to record the Tour de France for my brother who couldn't watch it, but now I'm completely hooked! I have been totally sick of using VHS and I didn't want to pay for a TIVO and the subsequent service costs. Enter "PVR" and the wonderful world of roll-your-own TV recording device stuff. I have a setup on my main computer where shows are recorded using a freely-downloaded schedule. I set up "record all episodes" and stop worrying about which show I forgot to watch... I think these things will absolutely change the way you watch TV.

Here's the best place I found talking about the subject. BYOPVR.com (Build Your Own PVR) It helped me a ton when I got started, and my friend Gloobert just buzzed through there and came out the other side with a spanky-new PVR setup. (actually, something's wrong with that site now.. bummer! Google's got the cache from what it used to be.. hopefully it comes back soon.)

This is really cool stuff. Of course, you'll really want to start shopping for cheap hard drives, as those tele shows suck up the bytes somethin' fierce.

I'm not sure exactly what this is, but it's darn fine cool! The Fountain is listed as an 'upcoming' movie from Warner Brothers. I know nothing about the flick, but this site looks really, really cool. As far as I can tell, that's images of chemical reactions or maybe the surface of the sun... either way, it's mesmerizing to watch!

I don't have much else to say than that... these Hubble images are incredible.

I've been consistently blown away by photos from Hubble of various deep space objects. These "pillars" are certainly one of my favorites, since they just baffle my sense of scale. I can't get much further than a quick concept of how big these features are before I just get boggled. To think that entire solar systems reside inside small bits of things like this shocks me.

There's a TON of great stuff at Space.com, of which that particular image is only a slice. Go back there often and browse through their massive collection of uber-cool stuff.

... oh yeah, and then there's an image like this to just make me stop cold in my tracks: Hubble Ultra Deep Field... holy cow. My brain won't wrap around that one.
